Clouds of delicious tags

Tag cloud in catalog thoughts:

1. It is a battle between ease of use and getting rid of arcane systems best known by professionals versus the lowering of standards and expectations and the dumbing down of society.

2.Also the tagging is being done by anyone on the Internet, not by our patrons, and therefore does not reflect community feelings, thoughts and opinions. And if just one person has tagged a book the tagsize is looks as if many people have tagged it.

Delicious
"Many users find that the real power of Delicious is in the social network aspect, which allows you to see how other users have tagged similar links and also discover other websites that may be of interest to you. You can think of it as peering into another users' filing cabinet, but with this powerful bookmarking tool each user's filing cabinet helps to build an expansive knowledge network."

Sort of, if an expansive knowledge network of pop culture and and the trivialities that fill the minds of the booboisie is the kind of knowledge you seek.

Delicious, MySpace, Facebook -its all about the crowd, all about the herd, see what every one else is doing so you can do the same! Be different, a unique, individual... just like everyone else. Or as Pete Townsend said, "because we feel so warm when we conform".
